South Sudan Joins LDC Category

18 December 2012

As of December 18, 2012 South Sudan has officially entered the group of countries categorised by the United Nations as least developed.

At it sixty-seventh session on Monday, the General Assembly adopted the resolution noting that the Republic of South Sudan became a member of the United Nations on 14 July 2011. The body also recalled the Economic and Social Council resolution 2012/32 of 27 July 2012, which noted that the country had given its consent to be included in the list of least developed countries.
