Workshop on  Fostering the Implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the LDCs in Bhutan, Thimphu, 11 March 2013

The workshop, organized by UN-OHRLLS in close cooperation with the Royal Government of Bhutan, provided an opportunity to bring the global and local perspectives together on the progress and challenges in the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries in Bhutan.

Following the opening statement by the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan, Mr. Gyan Chandra Acharya, USG and High Representative, provided a briefing on the progress made in the implementation of the IPoA, as well as efforts toward mainstreaming of the Istanbul Programme into the Post-2015 UN development agenda as well as the Rio+20 follow up. Such global perspective was complemented by presentations by the Secretary of the Gross National Happiness Commission on priorities and challenges in the implementation of the Istanbul Programme at the national level. An interactive session with questions and answers followed, including interventions from Government LDC Focal Points bringing in sectoral perspectives. The workshop concluded with a summary of the main points raised and follow-up actions by Ms. Schroderus-Fox, Director of UN-OHRLLS.
